One Year Later

One year later and I'm still talking to myself. It's been a full year since my first 'Hangin' with Justins,' and I'd thought I'd post the first one here because it's helpful to look back on what we've done, every so often. To see where we've come, and where we need to go.

This first one is crude, the audio overlaps incorrectly, the lighting is nasty, but the idea is there, and that's all I really cared about back then. Hell, it's still all I care about. Glasses doesn't even have glasses in this first iteration.

I now have a fancy camera and fancy audio in order to make these videos look as 'pro' as I can by myself, but there's something to be said for taking the tools you have at your disposal, not using any excuses, and making something.

That's the one thing I hear a lot of out here in LA (well, in life in general, I suppose)...talk. Talkie, talkie, let's do this, let's do that, let's get together and make stuff, let's go roll up our jeans and bike around town and punch bums. People talk themselves into believing they're do'ers. They think if they mention it enough, they can fake themselves into thinking that they ACTUALLY do create things. This mindset fascinates me to no end.

I urge you to make the things you talk about. Stand good on your word. Hold yourself accountable for the things you say you will do. If you've got an idea to make something and need a lot of people's help to make it, start smaller. Cut out the fat, try to figure out a way to start right now, by yourself.

Bring in other people that are specialists in their profession to do what they're best at. But never underestimate what you can do by yourself.

The video embedded below may fall short in MANY areas. I will be the first to stand up and say I've got a long way to go before I'm making feature films, but I'm trying.
You have to start somewhere.

Here's to 'Do'ers.'
